When creek hunting, look for gravel areas and dig with a shovel and sift the material. Feel the crunch when you stick that shovel in. Make sure its not private property

Construction sites are great in Florida for fossils if they are digging a deep pond. Always get permission as it is a felony if you trespass. Just look at the dirt piles for fossils. 

Floating screen sifters are the standard, as well as hand scoops and pole sifters. Various shovels are used as well. 

In Fl you can fossil hunt on states lands and water without a permit for shark teeth and non vertebrate fossils. You need a permit for other fossils
